What Is Osho Meditation and How Does It Actually Work?

Osho Meditation is a moving expression, a moving stillness, a dynamic process that helps you to come back into yourself. The meditation includes active techniques to help release stress and emotions so it can be easier to gain deeper stillness and clarity.

Osho meditation is a series of techniques that were created in the 1970s by the Indian mystic Osho. The sequence is different than the vast majority of other meditation techniques: rather than asking you to sit still and quiet your mind, they ask you to move, breathe intensely, make sounds and discharge, and only then to sit still. The logic is simple and it’s what most people find convincing when they hear it. You’ve heard the saying sit down and meditate after a long day at work and all the things that happen after that especially if you live in traffic – you know. The body is wired, the mind is running, and ten minutes is an hour.

Osho said that it is not the lack of discipline. What is it, that a restless one cannot fall immediately still? Provide a place to set the impatience down, and quiet will come without any effort. Therefore, these are known as active meditations. It is not the meditation that is the activity, but what opens the way for it. The stillness stages are the ones most people find to be where the real shift occurs, and take place second.

Our Osho Meditation services at Art of Self Healing create a transformative atmosphere that allows you to release your bottled emotions and thoughts through active techniques. With expert guidance, you will be led through dynamic practices that prepare your mind and body for more profound stillness. This process helps you connect with your true self, leaving you feeling balanced and aware. As you know yourself more intimately, the meditation process becomes a powerful tool for inner peace and personal growth.

Is Osho Meditation the Same as Other Meditation Practices?

No, and it is not a stylistic difference. All meditation traditions invite you to start and maintain the stillness. With mindfulness you are focusing on the breath or the body sensation. Vipassana scans and sees. Transcendental Meditation provides you with a mantra that you repeat silently, seated, twice a day. The essence of Zazen is posture and a single-mindedness. All of them begin standing still. Osho’s techniques are the reverse of this. Movement, breath, sound and catharsis are what we start with, and stillness is what we will eventually reach.

Osho’s methods invert that. Movement, breath, sound and catharsis come first; stillness is what you arrive at, not what you begin with.

The practical differences follow from that. An Osho session runs a full hour and asks real physical effort — shaking, jumping, dancing, sustained fast breathing — where mindfulness, Transcendental Meditation and guided sessions are shorter and essentially sedentary. Each Osho method has its own music marking the stage changes, so you’re carried through rather than watching a clock, and your eyes stay closed throughout, which is what makes moving freely in a room full of people feel private rather than exposed.

Which suits you depends on what you’re after. Mindfulness and Vipassana build sustained attention. Transcendental Meditation suits people who want something simple and routine. Osho’s methods tend to suit restless minds, bodies holding a lot of tension, and — most often, in our experience — people who have decided they can’t meditate, because every previous attempt meant sitting still and failing.

One last difference, and it isn’t technical: these techniques work as experiences, not beliefs. There’s no deity and no doctrine you’re required to accept, and our Brampton sessions draw people from every religious background and from none. They also don’t compete with anything else you practise — plenty of our clients pair them with mindfulness meditation or pranayama breathwork, using the active methods to discharge and the quieter ones to build steadiness. If sitting meditation has never worked for you, that’s often less a sign that meditation isn’t for you than a sign you started at the wrong end.

What chakra meditation Osho service do?

Our Osho Chakra Meditation focuses on balancing the body’s chakras or energy centers to promote inner harmony and vitality. This service combines Osho active meditations with deep breathing and focused awareness, allowing participants to release energetic blockages and restore natural energy flow. Using imagination, you are guided to visualize each chakra or energy center opening and harmonizing, helping your body and mind align. The process works energetically, integrating movement, sound, and stillness to enhance overall well-being. Throughout the session, you are encouraged to remain present and attuned to sensations in your body, ensuring that the meditation cultivates clarity, grounding, and heightened self-awareness for lasting balance.

Why Osho Meditations Are Practiced in a Group

Osho meditations are designed to be deeply experiential and transformative, and practicing them in a group setting amplifies their impact. The collective energy of the group creates a powerful meditative field that supports emotional release, deep awareness, and inner awakening. Being in a shared space allows participants to let go more easily, move beyond mental resistance, and experience a sense of connection, trust, and oneness—making the meditation more intense, healing, and effortless.

Where Can I Learn More Before Committing to Osho Meditation?

Start with a single class. We run one-off sessions at $35 precisely so you can try the thing rather than read about it. An hour will tell you more than a week of research. If it isn’t for you, you’ve spent $35 and learned something.

Book the free consultation call. If you’d rather talk before you turn up, we’ll walk you through which of the four methods fits your body and your schedule, and answer anything you’re unsure about  including whether you should check with your doctor first. There’s no cost and no obligation. Call (416) 887-9162 or book a time here.

Can Beginners Handle Osho Dynamic Meditation’s Intensity?

How Osho Active Meditation Helps You Release Stress

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

For most healthy adults, yes, beginners are welcome and no experience is needed. Two things to know. First, the rapid-breathing stage of Dynamic Meditation can cause light-headedness or tingling in the hands and face; that's a normal response, and you can always slow down or sit out a stage. Second, the more physical methods aren't right for everyone. Check with your doctor first if you're pregnant, have a heart condition or high blood pressure, epilepsy, glaucoma or recent eye surgery, a recent operation, or back, knee or joint problems. If any of those apply, Nadabrahma is seated and gentle and is usually a better starting point than Dynamic.

At Art of Self Healing, a single 60-minute class is $35. Packages bring the per-class cost down: 5 classes for $150 (valid one month), 10 classes for $250 (valid three months), and 20 classes for $450 (valid six months, which works out to $22.50 a class). Most people start with a single class or the 5-class package before committing further. Sessions are available in person at our Brampton centre and online.

Very little. Wear loose, comfortable clothing you can move freely in the active stages involve shaking, jumping or dancing depending on the method. Bring a water bottle and a small towel, since some sessions are genuinely physical. Come on an empty stomach or leave at least two hours after a substantial meal, which matters especially for Nadabrahma and Dynamic. You'll practise barefoot, so nothing is needed for your feet. Everything else, including the mats and the music, is provided.

You'll arrive a few minutes early, and we'll ask about any injuries or health conditions and answer your questions. We'll then explain the stages of the method you're doing, so you know what's coming and roughly how long each part lasts. The music signals every transition, so there's no clock-watching. You keep your eyes closed for most of the session. Afterwards we'll give you time to sit quietly rather than rushing you out the fifteen minutes after a session matter as much as the hour itself. Most first-timers feel physically loose and mentally quiet, and occasionally a little emotional, which is normal.

Osho Chakra Breathing Meditation is a guided practice that uses rhythmic breath and focused awareness to cleanse, activate, and balance chakras or energy centers, promoting energetically aligned body, mind, and inner calm.

Many people find it does, and the active stages give restless, anxious energy somewhere to go - which is often exactly what makes stillness possible afterward. That said, we want to be straight with you: meditation broadly has good evidence behind it for stress, but research on Osho's specific methods is limited. It is not a treatment for an anxiety disorder and shouldn't replace care from your doctor or therapist. If you're managing a diagnosed condition or have a trauma history, the cathartic stages can surface strong emotion, tell us beforehand so we can guide you appropriately, and keep your healthcare provider in the loop.
